Well,
since the 30th reunion, we have been very busy. After living in the Washington
DC area for about 30 years, my wife Joy retired from the Federal Government in
September of 2008, I quit my job as a Project Manager for a Civil Engineering
Company and in October 2008 we loaded up the truck and we moved to Beverly, no
not really, we moved to Topeka Kansas, because that is where our oldest son
Lanny and his wife Amy live and we wanted to be around when the grandchildren
decided to arriveJ.
Also because our youngest son Casey was in the Army and we figured being in the
center of the U.S. we would be relatively close no matter where he was
stationed in the States. He was stationed at Ft. Lewis Washington at the time. Casey was the first to give us a
Granddaughter, she was born on April 23, 2009, and her name is Kyla RoseJ. We hung around
Topeka, just traveling around the Mid-West for a little over a year. In January
2010 Casey’s unit was deployed to Iraq, his wife at the time and daughter went
back to Virginia. They had bought a house in Washington and were just going to
board it up and leave it empty while he was in Iraq. So, we decided that was
not a good idea and offered to house sit while he was goneJ, and we were off to
Washington. Had a great time traveling around the North West for that year
while he was gone using his house as a Home base. While in Washington, we were
informed that Amy, Lanny’s wife was pregnant with Twins and they asked Joy if
she could watch them for the first year. So, when Casey returned from Iraq, we
headed back to Topeka. They were born on March 5, 2011, (Lauren and Reese)J, and when school
started Joy began to watch them, Amy is a Teacher. Well, I couldn’t just sit
around and do nothing while she was watching the twins, so I decided I needed
to get a job, in October 2011 I started working for the Kansas Department of
Transportation as an Engineering Technician doing lab tests on soil. On June 3, 2015 Lanny and Amy had our 4th and
final Granddaughter, so far, Brooke was bornJ,
and Joy watched her for the first year also. Still working at KDOT, I took a
position as an Engineering Technician Specialist in May of this year; I am now
in charge of the Physical Tests Sections, which includes the Aggregate,
Concrete and Cement Subsections of the lab, overseeing the tests done on
Aggregate, Concrete and Cement. We enjoy
traveling around and going on Cruises. Well that’s about it, looking forward to
seeing everyone at the reunion.
